Average time to settle a estate?tough question i know!

My father passed away on 12/8 he left a will splitting his estate between my sister and i. he made her the executor because she was working in the law office that made the will about 20 yrs ago.her husbands sister is a lawyer and is taking care of the details.he had a house worth $425 (paid for) about $500k in cash and no bills or liens of any kind.i am living in the house and plan on keeping it leaving her the cash.they keep telling me they are waiting for the state to send back paperwork is this normal or should i be looking into it?we are both well off on our own i could hire a specialist if needed?i dont want to stir things up unless their is a real problem.
