My daughter asked me if she could open a merchant account under my name for her online business. I did this because she had poor credit so I gave her my social security number in order for the merchant account company to check my credit file. She assured me that there would be no tax liability on my part because the merchant account... View Full Answer

I have a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and another nonprofit (but not tax exempt) has asked that my organization be a fiscal sponsor.

Answered by Ashley C. L. Brown | Newport Beach, California | View Lawyer Profile

I am aware of the sponsorship models and my requirements to act as sponsor. However, I can't figure out if I need to file any kind of form or amendment to my 1023, with the IRS, indicating that I am planning to act as a fiscal sponsor. Is there such a requirement?

Common Law Marriage

I got divorced in 1983 after 11 years of marriage. Financially I wasn't able to move out. My ex never recognized the divorce. He insisted that we continue to file our taxes as a married couple. I didn't feel good about it, but was dependent upon him. Well, we moved in 2008 to Georgia. As usual he coerced me into filing a joint tax... View Full Answer
