If I win a trip through the radio station and am unable to take it do I still have to pay taxes on the trip?

I live in Michigan I won a trip through a radio station and was unable to take the trip before the deadline. Called the station and recieved many different answers in fact one person said I would be able to get a revised 1099. When I talked to another gentleman he basically stated no I would have to pay for it anyway.

How to recoupe from the market crash of 2008?

Is there any way we could recoupe the money lost in the market crash of 2008? Can we still get money back when declaring that loss through the IRS? Or how can we go about reclaiming what was lost from our retirement?
