OUR PROCESS, PHILOSOPHY and TIPS ON HOW TO SHOP for LEGAL SERVICES

The Founders of Natoli-Lapin, LLC created Lantern Legal Services because it became more and more obvious that the marketplace for legal services was lacking accessible and affordable products for start-ups, small businesses, artists and independent inventors. Far too many in need of legal assistance were either giving short shrift to their needs or foregoing them entirely. This can be costly, and usually at a time when things have just begun to work-out for your venture. We found this situation unacceptable and so should you, which is why we created LanternLegal.com.

Our Philosophy is Simple: Offer fair and reasonable Flat-Rate legal products by chiseling away unnecessary overhead costs. This is done by serving our clients online in a virtual context and by packaging many of our services into affordable Flat-Rate legal offerings. Our process is tailored to insure the highest degree of customer service and responsiveness from our attorneys, making the experience both enjoyable and educational for our clients.

WHAT ARE “UNBUNDLED” LEGAL SERVICES?
Traditional law firms will typically engage clients by requesting that those new clients put up a retainer (a deposit of money held in trust) and then the law firm or lawyer will bill against that retainer by the hour. The hourly fees are often in excess of $400.00 per hour and depend on the particular attorney working on the matter. When the retainer is exhausted, the client is asked to make another deposit to continue work on the matter, or the client will be invoiced for services.
The term “unbundled” legal services refers to a project-to-project method of offering legal services. If the client needs only one agreement drafted the client only pays for that agreement. If later the client requires additional work, a new fee is negotiated for only that work. In fact, our attorneys can work out a Flat-Fee budget for most client matters offering another added benefit. This way our clients know all of their legal costs upfront and no client is ever charged or billed for service without knowing what those charges will be ahead of time. That said, there are some matters that simply cannot be handled on a Flat-Rate structure, and in those cases, we are committed to working with our clients to create the best possible remedy for their situation.
HOW TO SHOP FOR LEGAL SERVICES
Shopping for legal services can be tricky, especially if you have had no exposure to legal practice. What we suggest is that you pick up your yellowpages and call at least two or three attorneys or law firms in your area and ask for an estimate of what it might cost to handle your matter. You may not like what you hear, but at least you will be informed as to what the market rate is for your issue. This is important, because now you can make an educated decision knowing that if a particular provider is offering services at “too-good-to-be-true” rates – it probably is. Many unscrupulous providers offer services online independently or through marketplace networks, but many of these providers bear no responsibility to their clients because they lack the proper credentials as well as the necessary knowledge and acumen to handle the task. While we are proud that we can offer extremely favorable rates for our quality of service, there is no such thing as “cheap” legal services if you are hiring true professionals. So please beware of any such offers.
When shopping for legal services it is also important to not only understand your present requirements, but also to foresee your expected legal needs for both the short-term and long-term future. While unbundled services, such as what we offer our clients, can be extremely valuable to many businesses, some might be in a situation where they can really benefit by a full-service law firm that can offer highly specialized service across many legal practice areas. Of course, this kind of service comes at a great price. Consequently, our firm has many clients that come to us for many matters even though they have large full-service law firms on retainer. This is because we can deliver a quality product within our core competencies for a budget those other firms cannot. This results in considerable savings for our clients.
