I have been doing a property managment job to a condominium complex in North Chelmsford, Mass for the last 22 years. All this time i have been getting a 1099 form and paid my own taxes every year. Recently i have developed a life threating medical condition that will basically put me out of work for 3-4 months.
Since i have been out of work the trustees have been filling in for me, yesterday i had a conferance call with the trustees and after they told me how great of a job i done, in the next breath they said they said they said they didn't want to take over any longer while i'm recoiperating and said they were going to take interviews and hire someone else to take over.
Needless to say i am very hurt after working at this property for 22 years, and now that i have a medical illness, they want to fire me because of this medical issue. My illness is not perminant and i should be back to a normal condition in August of this year. Can they do this to me? Are they required to give me a serverance pay? Please Advise

Does your medical condition rise to the level of a handicap? Could you continue to perform the duties of your job if you had a reasonable accomodation?
