How to drop a simple assult case?

I have recently been charged with simple assult. All of the parties involved are not pressing any charges and told the detectives and states attorney that they are not pressing charges. I was the one assulted I have a black eye and many bruises. The other two parties involved are ladies, they refuse to press charges because they were not injured in any way. I was the one who called the police and I was also locked in jail for 12 hours. I was intoxicated that is why i was in jail for 12 hours until the alcohol wore off. Although the police officer says the state can still press charges even if the other parties involved don't want to. Why can they and how can I get the case dropped?
