Carpet cleaner problem

We had our carpet wet cleaned in 2 rooms by a carpet cleaner. When he was completed with the job, he poured all the dirty water, and debris from our carpet in our toilet and bathtub. A police officer in the town i live in has been telling the employees at the gas station that i am smoking and cooking meth, there is no basis to this besides the fact that i have lost weight. My gardener performed work for me and we agreed on one price.He then overbilled me and wants to sue me.We did not have a written contract but he also damaged my sprinklers and brick work which I had to have fixed.What are my options.I gave him two checks.He made me make out one for cash and one for his mortgage co.I have copies of both.
