Can rent a center put me in jail?

I got a computer through Rent-a-Center in south west Florida. I have come into hard times as many people have in today's economy. Rent-a-Center calls me numerous times a day, calls everyone on my reference list many times a day, and even calls me at work. Pounds on my door 2 or 3 times a day, scares my children with their pounding and screaming. Today I get a phone call at work from someone claiming to be from the Sheriff's office. I answer it and am told that Rent a Center wants their computer back. Said I have until tomorrow night to return it or they are coming to arrest me for theft. I am a single mom and attend school online. I need the computer and have paid many payments on the computer. Now trying to arrest me, harassing me, and telling me I have to pay $2,200 in full to keep it by tomorrow. Can they really put me in jail? Both the Sheriff"s office and the City Police say it is a civil matter. I am so scared.
