Information regarding filing Bankruptcy, how does it work?

I am interested in about fiing; cost, can I keep condo and car, etc.? How long does it take? How long does it stay on my credit info? I have approx. $5000 debt; but my income is only $1200 MONTH. I have to do something or I will never survive. I realize I should of never gotten in debt, but I did and I can't back up in time. What is done is done and I need to do what I need to do to get out of this mess. Please, I appreciate any and all information regarding the laws, etc. Thank you.

In regards to keeping your car, generally, you can exempt a personal car. It would of course depend on whether or not is paid for. Second, regarding the condo, it would depend on whether or not a) it is paid for and b) whether it has any equity.

The cost is generally between $1,000 to 1,500 which includes filing fees. The best thing is to sit down with a bankruptcy attorney to discuss your particular situation. Most bankruptcy attorneys offer free consultaitons.

Good luck.
