I have an initial payment set up of a small amount to get the debt collectors to stop calling me, but I am also looking to file for bankruptcy. Someone told me that making any payments whatsoever could make my filing for bankruptcy automatically denied. Is this true?

I have little to no income and am unable to pay any previous debts or the bills I currently have. I have $40,000.00 in dept just recently got approved for ssi/disability my monthly income will be 595 but the retro active amount can it be leavyed from my account Please help me I tried calling legal aid they dirrected me here.
